What to Expect Before, During, and After Abdominoplasty

The tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that will require a complete understanding of the risks and benefits. During your first visit with Dr. Manuel Peña, the cosmetic surgery team will provide you with detailed information on the surgical process. Procedure

 

• After a thorough physical evaluation, Dr. Peña will evaluate your current health condition as well as your body contouring goals and recommend the procedure or combination of procedures that will give you great results. After you have decided to move forward with the tummy tuck treatment, our staff will prepare you for your surgery day with a list of detailed information and instructions.
• On the day of your tummy tuck procedure, you will undergo detailed marking of your body to prepare you for surgery.
• You will them be administered an anesthetic.
• In a procedure that takes anywhere from two to five hours, Dr. Peña will create incision around the belly button and across the lower abdomen.
• The abdominal skin is loosened from the belly button area and separated from the abdominal wall. Loose abdominal muscles are tightened with sutures and excess skin is removed. The incisions are then closed with sutures and the area is bandaged. A compressive garment is usually applied.
• Dr. Peña and staff will review the post-operative instructions, prescribe medications to control swelling and discomfort, and remind you of follow-up visits.
• Your activities will be restricted for several weeks following surgery, and you should be able to enjoy the full results within a few months. There will be a noticeable scar in the lower abdomen that should fade over time. Remember that a balanced diet and regular exercise is the key to keeping your stomach in good shape.
