Prior to your Naples plastic surgery procedure, Dr. Manuel Peña will ask for a list of any medications, supplements, and herbs you are currently taking. Some of these will need to be discontinued before your procedure to help protect your health and safety. Dr. Peña will discuss this with you in more detail during your initial consultation.

Herbal Supplements

There are a number of herbal supplements that may need to be discontinued prior to your surgery. This can include:

  • Blood thinners such as gingko biloba, ginseng, feverfew
  • Anesthetics including kava, St. John’s Wart, and valerian root

There are also a host of herbal supplements that are known to interact poorly with medications that may be necessary for your surgery. These include licorice, goldenseal, and Echinacea. These and similar supplements will need to be stopped at least six weeks in advance of your procedure to help guard your safety.

Our board-certified Naples plastic surgeon holds your comfort and safety as top priorities. During your plastic surgery planning phase Dr. Peña will provide you with pre and postoperative instructions to help reduce risks and ensure optimal results.
