Liposculpting
Naples, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, & Estero, Florida

Liposuction has been performed with stunning results for many years. Now, to make a good thing better, there is liposculpting, a refinement of liposuction that is done using an ultrasonic fat-lysing technology. Dr. Peña uses the Vaser LipoSelection® System, an enhanced ultrasonic liposuction process.
Liposculpting is used to reshape the neck, stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, knees, and arms. The fat destroyed by this method is gone forever. The energy can be directed to precise areas enabling the plastic surgeon to “sculpt” a more precise body shape than with early liposuction equipment.
It is an ideal solution for people who have struggled and failed to regain their shape though diet and exercise. In addition to this group of people, anyone who would be a good candidate for liposuction would also be a candidate for Liposculpting.
How Liposculpting Works
Liposculpting is, in many ways, similar to liposuction. A major difference is in how the fat is removed. But the most dramatic difference is in artistically “sculpting” your body’s new contour. Liposculpting does take a little longer than liposuction.
First a narrow incision is made through which the Vaser LipoSelection® cannula will be inserted. Dr. Peña injects a special saline solution containing a numbing agent into the treatment area and then inserts the cannula.
The cannula directs ultrasonic energy to fat cells and fibrous tissue in the area that is being sculpted. Ultrasonic energy heats these tissues to the point where they liquefy, but leaves muscle, blood vessels and nerves unaffected. The liquefied fat and fibrous tissue are either suctioned out, or if only a small area was treated, might be left for the body to absorb.
Recovery from Liposculpting
Because the ultrasound targets just the tissue you need to get rid of, there is less bleeding, bruising and swelling, and healing is much faster. Patients also experience less pain with this method than with traditional liposuction. Along with faster recovery there is also less risk with this procedure.
Recovery may take several weeks. You will have to wear a compression garment for a while after surgery. And there will be some drainage from the incision sites. Mild pain relievers are usually enough to keep patients comfortable. Dr. Peña will give you detailed instructions for your care plan.
