Questions About Liposculpting
Naples, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, & Estero, Florida

Am I a good candidate for Liposculpting?
If you are a good candidate for liposuction then you are probably a good candidate for liposculpting. The main differences between the procedures are in the technology used. Dr. Peña’s Naples Liposculpting treatments are far gentler than earlier methods of liposuction. There is less risk of bleeding and bruising.
Typical Liposculpting candidates are people with realistic expectations. They are those who are close to normal weight, have firm elastic skin, are physically and mentally healthy and have not had surgery near the area they want sculpted.
What lifestyle changes will I have to make?
That depends upon your lifestyle. Certainly, you will have to quit all the common vices for several weeks before surgery, and several weeks after healing. Smoking (or any tobacco use), alcohol, and many medications including over the counter, vitamins and herbal supplements can interfere with your body’s response during recovery and healing. Aspirin is one that can result in excessive bleeding because it delays clotting. Many easily accessible drinks, foods, medications and supplements carry similar risks for surgery.
You should plan on getting plenty of rest after surgery, so if you are used to being on the go, you should plan more sedentary activities for a while.
What else should I know about recovery?
Dr. Peña’s patients generally return to work in a few days. Liposculpting recovery and healing can take 6 to 12 weeks. Your swelling should be gone by that time, with most disappearing within the first three to four weeks. You will need to wear a compression garment for a few weeks to help minimize the swelling.
During the first month you will need to get mild exercise, like walking to help prevent blood clots in your legs. Moderate exercise will need to wait a month or so.
While Liposculpting generally causes less pain than liposuction, you will still have some postoperative pain. Your doctor will prescribe pain meds to keep you comfortable and may give you antibiotics to prevent infection.
Follow doctor’s orders and keep all follow-up appointments. A small amount of bleeding is normal. Also, many patients feel depressed or anxious for a time after surgery. Bleeding, pain and depression should improve steadily. If you notice any excess bleeding, sudden pain or prolonger or excessive depression, call your doctor.
Are the risks associated with Liposculpting different than for liposuction?
Liposculpting differs from liposuction in that it uses an ultrasonic probe that generates heat to liquefy fat cells. It is possible that the heat from the probe can injure skin, muscle or other tissues.
