Naples Tummy Tuck

Am I a candidate for tummy tuck surgery?

The tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a great way to tone and firm the abdominal area. The tightening of the stomach muscles, combined with the removal of excess skin and fat tissue make this procedure an effective one with noticeable results. However, there are restrictions. Patients who are overweight or have an abundance of fat in the abdominal region may need to lose some of that excess weight before this procedure is recommended.

Good candidates are generally within a normal weight range and in good health, with no major conditions that could inhibit healing. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and should not be pregnant or expect to become pregnant soon after surgery. Dr. Peña wants to be sure that tummy tuck candidates have a thorough understanding of the risks and benefits of surgery, as well as the type of results that can occur. The appearance and position of the scar will be discussed.

What are the risks involved with abdominoplasty?

The tummy tuck procedure involves some risks that you should be aware of before committing to surgery. The risk level will vary by individual, dependent upon factors such as general health, healing capabilities, and adherence to the Dr. Peña’s instructions.

Risks include excessive bleeding, slow healing, anesthesia reaction, infection and scarring. Dr. Peña will go over the potential complications with you during your initial consultation. It is important to keep in mind that the incidence of side effects is very low at our Naples plastic surgery practice, thanks in part to the high standards of safety we adhere to and Dr. Peña’s surgical skill. Dr. Peña will not clear you for surgery unless you meet stringent requirements for tummy tuck candidacy.

Are the firming results of a tummy tuck long lasting?

Tummy tuck results can last many years, but you need to do your part to keep the benefits of your tummy tuck. A healthy diet, exercise, and regular skin care will help keep the abdominal area looking firm and toned. Follow Dr. Peña’s post-operative instructions carefully to ensure proper healing, and check in with our cosmetic surgery staff whenever you have questions about your surgery results or how to keep your tummy area looking its best.
