A thigh lift is a body contouring procedure in which excess skin and fat are removed from your outer and inner thigh. With a thigh lift, board-certified Naples plastic surgeon Dr. Manuel Peña can firm the skin around your upper leg to produce a more toned and sleek appearance.
Several areas of your body may not respond well to diet and exercise. If you have good skin elasticity and are not suffering from excess amounts of sagging skin, a procedure such as liposuction may be better suited to meet your needs. This is best determined during your initial consultation with Dr. Peña, and will be based on your body’s needs and your ultimate aesthetic desires.
Thigh Lift Procedure
Your thigh lift will be performed under anesthesia at our AAAASF certified surgery center. The type of anesthesia you receive will depend on your medical history, but you will be made sufficiently comfortable prior to your procedure.
Once you have been made comfortable, Dr. Peña will make the necessary incisions. There are several thigh lift techniques that may be utilized, but all thigh lifts will require incisions in the groin. If you have a larger amount of skin that needs to be removed, you may also require incisions along the back of your thigh as well. Dr. Peña will determine what incisions are appropriate in your case. Through these incisions, excess fat and skin will be removed before your skin is tightened around your muscles and your incisions are closed. The scars will be hidden in the creases and will fade over time.
Results and Recovery
The results of your thigh lift may be immediate but bruising and swelling can obscure them for the first few weeks. During this time you will need to wear the compression garments provided by our office and to follow all of Dr. Peña’s advice to help reduce swelling and speed your recovery period.
Recovery from thigh lift can take up to one month or more. You should be able to return to work within two weeks and resume most normal routines within three to four weeks. Swelling should subside around week three, but may last for several months. Be sure to wear the compression garments and take all prescribed medications during this time to help reduce extended periods of swelling.
You should notice the results of your thigh lift as soon as swelling goes down. By week four, all of your normal routines may also be resumed. Dr. Peña will help you determine when it is appropriate to begin more strenuous activities.
Providing you adopt a healthy lifestyle, the results of your thigh lift should be permanent. Dr. Peña can discuss steps you can take to extend your results during your initial consultation.
