Cancer “Stem Cells” identified for skin, brain, and gut tumors

Cells with similarities to adult stem cellshave been identified as the possible cause of recurrences in these specific tumors. The properties these cell have is the initial slow growth, making them difficult to kill with chemotherapy and then their ability to multiply without limits. These studies shed light on the cause of recurrences and lets the focus of long term treatment shift to try to eradicate these "parent" cancer cells.
