Liposuction Techniques

Naples Liposuction

With liposuction, you can finally get rid of those stubborn love handles or abdominal pouch that you've been unsuccessfully trying to diet and exercise away. Naples area cosmetic surgeon Dr. Manuel Peña uses safe and effective techniques for all of our liposuction patients. To decide which procedure is right for you and what to expect from liposuction, you should meet with Dr. Peña for a personal consultation.

Tumescent Liposuction

To begin your tumescent liposuction procedure, Dr. Peña will inject a saline solution into the treatment area. The injection also includes lidocaine to numb the treatment area for more comfort during your liposuction.

The solution works to enlarge your fat cells and make them easier to remove. Dr. Peña will make tiny incisions in inconspicuous locations. He will insert a small cannula, a tube specifically made for fat removable, into the incision sites. The cannula connects to a suction canister. Dr. Peña will suck out the unwanted fat.

After your procedure, you will be wrapped in a compression garment to aid the healing process and keep the swelling to a minimum. You may experience swelling and bruising, but they are only temporary effects of the treatment. Within three months, you will be admiring your final results.

Power Assisted Liposuction

Power assisted liposuction is similar to tumescent liposuction, except that the fat is liquefied with sound waves before it is suctioned out. During ultrasonic liposuction, Dr. Peña will numb the treatment area with anesthetic. Then he will break up the fat cells with high-frequency ultrasound waves. Using a vibration cannula, fat is "Shaken off the tissue" and suctioned out. At the end of the procedure, the shaking cannula can "knock off" some fat cells which are allowed to remain there. This helps to smooth out the Post-Operative contour.

Recovery from power assisted liposuction varies from patient to patient, but you should be able to return to work within a week or two. Like tumescent liposuction, you may experience bruising and tenderness in the treatment area, but these will be temporary.

Liposuction Alternative – Exilis

Exilis is a targeted fat reduction technique that is not as invasive as liposuction. This non-surgical procedure uses radiofreqency and can reduce your deposits of unwanted fat, similar to liposuction. It is an affordable alternative that requires no downtime to recover, however, it is not a direct substitute for liposuction. Ask Dr. Peña about which technique is best to achieve the results you are looking for.
