Board-certified Naples breast augmentation surgeon Dr. Manuel Peña offers two different types of breast implants: silicone and saline. Which one is right for you depends on factors unique to your anatomy, your aesthetic desires, and your final goals. During your breast augmentation consultation Dr. Peña will discuss all of your options to help ensure you are choosing the implant best suited to meet your needs.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone breast implants are filled prior to placement. This means that a larger incision may be necessary. However, silicone breast implants – particularly form stable or “gummy bear breast implants” – tend to look, feel, and respond more like natural breast tissue. For many women, this more natural looking result can even be obtained when silicone implants are placed above the muscles in the chest.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline breast implants are filled after they are placed. This offers two advantages: it allows Dr. Peña to make small adjustments to volume and it allows for a smaller incision. However, saline breast implants may not look and feel as natural as their silicone alternatives. For this reason, many women who choose this type of implant also choose below the muscle placement. This breast augmentation option may slightly increase recovery time, but it covers saline implants with natural breast tissue and reduces many of the aesthetic issues associated with this particular implant option.
